Sultan RS, Wang S, Crystal S, Olfson M.
JAMA Network Open. 2019;2(7):e197850.
440+ scholarly impact | DOI: 10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2019.7850

Sultan RS, Zhang AW, Becker TD, et al.
Pediatrics. 2026;157(1):e2024070509.
DOI: 10.1542/peds.2024-070509

Sultan RS, Zhang AW, Olfson M, Kwizera MH, Levin FR.
JAMA Network Open. 2023;6(5):e2311294.
DOI: 10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2023.11294

Impact: Revealed ~2.5 million US adolescents with subthreshold ("nondisordered") cannabis use — roughly 4 times as common as cannabis use disorder — carrying 2–4x higher odds of adverse psychosocial events, supporting expanded screening.

Clinical Informatics & AI

This research now anchors a clinical informatics program: a deployed AI clinical decision-support system (evaluated across 16 clinicians), the CEBA-ADHD clinical-knowledge-graph tool (NIMH R01), and the PAWS digital therapeutic for youth cannabis use disorder (NIDA UG3/UH3).
